Cherry Peak Resort: A Young Utah Ski Destination with Local Roots
Cherry Peak Resort Webcams. Nestled in the Bear River Mountains of northern Utah, Cherry Peak Resort boasts a short but interesting history. Opened in 2014, it’s the first entirely new ski resort built from scratch in the United States since 2004. While it may lack the size and grandeur of some of Utah’s more established resorts, Cherry Peak offers a unique experience steeped in local vision and community.
From Dream to Reality: A Family’s Vision Takes Shape
The story of Cherry Peak begins with John Chadwick, a local developer whose family purchased the land in 1967. As a child, John envisioned the slopes as a future ski resort. This dream gained momentum in 2002 when an Olympic Ski Coach from Argentina confirmed the area’s potential for fantastic skiing. However, the path to opening wasn’t without its challenges. Obtaining permits and navigating local concerns took several years. Finally, in 2013, construction on Cherry Peak began, financed entirely by private investors.
A Gradual Ascent: Overcoming Challenges and Finding Success
The initial opening of Cherry Peak in late 2014 faced a setback due to a lack of snowfall. The resort officially debuted during the 2015-2016 season with a limited operation featuring two lifts and five runs. The following year saw the addition of a third lift and an expansion to 29 groomed runs. Interestingly, the resort initially did not operate on Sundays, a decision later reversed in 2017 due to popular demand.
A Look Ahead: A Family-Friendly Resort with Room to Grow
Today, Cherry Peak is known for its family-friendly atmosphere, minimal crowds, and convenient location for residents of nearby Logan and Cache Valley. The resort offers night skiing, a variety of terrain parks, and a comprehensive snowmaking system to supplement natural snowfall. With ongoing development plans, Cherry Peak looks forward to welcoming new skiers and snowboarders while staying true to its local roots.
