The story begins in the early 1960s. As the mining industry declined in Park City, the United Park City Mines, the last surviving mining company, saw an opportunity. In 1963, their vision materialized with the opening of Treasure Mountain, featuring the world’s longest gondola at the time.
The name changed to Park City Ski Area just three years later, reflecting its growing popularity among skiers. The resort continued to expand, incorporating nearby peaks and bowls, offering diverse terrain for all skill levels.
A Modern Mountain Resort Emerges
In 1996, Park City Ski Area entered a new era under the ownership of Powdr Corporation. The name evolved once more to Park City Mountain Resort, signifying a shift towards a year-round destination. High-speed lifts were installed, and the resort embraced snowboarding, which had previously been banned.
Today, Park City Mountain stands as a giant in the world of skiing. With over 3,300 acres of skiable terrain and 16 lifts, it caters to every skier and snowboarder’s dream. But the offerings extend beyond winter. The resort has transformed into a four-season destination, featuring activities like alpine slides, zip lines, and hiking and biking trails during the summer months.
